Why False Teeth are Not a Good Alternative?
66
Have you ever heard someone say that they would rather have false teeth than take care of their natural teeth? These words may have been said when we were kids or around someone that had false teeth. Maybe they were said when it was time to brush our teeth and said out of laziness?
The idea of not brushing our teeth ever again can sound pretty good but the reality of it is that getting false teeth is not a good alternative to the real deal. Teeth help us chew; bite, talk and they support the lips. We might be able to fool others with our dentures but we cannot fool Mother Nature.
The results of having our teeth completely removed are not pretty and having dentures is not a lazy way out. If anything it is more costly and can be more embarrassing. People with dentures sound like they have a lot of spit built up and will talk with a lisp because they are not used to having two big pieces of plastic in their mouths.
Dentures can also be a nightmare for those that have weak gag reflexes. Constant gagging from the false teeth encourages some people to just have them in when necessary.
They also tend to shift and move around in the mouth. Sometimes they will pop out while you talk or try to eat something. Eating becomes a chore and you might have to switch to soft foods because false teeth cannot support the same amount of force as your real teeth could.
People with false teeth also have to continually have them refitted to adjust to the separation of the top and bottom jaw bone. It is recommended to go in every couple of years to have them refitted and every 7 years to have them replaced.
Sadly there are people out there that think having false teeth is an efficient way out of having to take care of real teeth. I am sure those that have to wear false teeth would disagree. All we have to do to avoid getting dentures is to brush and floss our teeth, a minor inconvenience compared to a lifetime of hassle with fake teeth.
